Ultimate Baguio City Travel Guide: Your Perfect Mountain Getaway!

Why Baguio?

Baguio City, dubbed the City of Pines and the Summer Capital of the Philippines, is a must-visit gem in Luzon! Nestled in the cool, misty mountains, it’s my top pick for its year-round chilly vibe, vibrant Panagbenga Festival, unbeatable thrift shopping (hello, ukay-ukay!), mouthwatering food scene along Session Road, and super easy access from Metro Manila. Whether you’re craving a quick weekend escape or a deep dive into culture and nature, Baguio’s got it all. Here’s your ultimate guide to falling in love with this charming city!

Where is Baguio?

Located in the Cordillera Administrative Region within Benguet, Baguio is a highly urbanized city sitting 1,470 meters above sea level. Founded by the Americans in 1900 as a hill station (the only one in Asia!), it’s surrounded by La Trinidad, Itogon, and Tuba, offering a perfect blend of urban buzz and mountain serenity.

When to Visit Baguio?

Baguio’s magic shines year-round, but your ideal time depends on your vibe:

November to February: Bundle up for the coldest weather in the Philippines (as low as 6.3°C in January!). Perfect for cozy sweater days, but skip February if you want to dodge the massive Panagbenga Festival crowds.

March to May: Summer escape with milder temps (16-25°C). It’s peak season, so book hotels early to beat the tourist rush.

June to October: Rainy season brings foggy, romantic vibes—great for cafe-hopping and quiet strolls with an umbrella. Ideal for repeat visitors who want fewer crowds and a chill experience.

Travel Essentials

-Currency: Philippine Peso (USD 1 ≈ PHP 58).

-Money: ATMs, banks, and exchange kiosks are everywhere, especially around Session Road.

-Power: Type A outlets (two flat pins).

- Safety: Baguio is super safe, with low crime rates day or night—I’ve always felt at ease here!

- Pro Tip: Pack a jacket, even in summer—it gets chilly!

- Health: Plenty of hospitals and medical centers for emergencies.

Getting to Baguio

Just 250 km from Metro Manila, Baguio is a 6-hour bus ride away. No flights currently, but Cebu-Baguio flights via Loakan Airport resume in December 2022. You can also hop on provincial buses or vans from Ilocos or other Luzon spots for easy access.

What to Do in Baguio

- Explore: Hit up iconic tourist spots like Burnham Park, Mines View, and The Mansion.

- Shop: Dive into ukay-ukay thrift stores for unique finds at bargain prices.

- Eat: Session Road is a foodie haven with everything from local eats to international flavors. Don’t miss Baguio’s famous strawberry taho and fresh veggie dishes!

- Festivals: Catch the vibrant Panagbenga Flower Festival in February for parades and blooms galore.

- Stay: From budget hostels to cozy hotels, there’s something for every traveler.
